Alieu Bah

ORA Africa 2025 Fellow

Gambia

Alieu Bah is a writer, theorist, organizer, and lead political educator with the Pan-African popular education collective Mwamko. He has organized in The Gambia for years and is one of the inaugurators of the Movement for African Unity, an umbrella for the African left. His writing has appeared in The Red Voice, Hampton Think, This is Africa, and Ukombozi Review. He is currently the editor of The New Pan African.

Through his ORA fellowship, Alieu is developing Courage and Clarity, an initiative that creates physical and virtual spaces for political education—spaces rooted in deep learning, collective exchange, and a radical reimagining of emancipatory politics from below. His work centers on political education that emerges from people’s lived struggles and realities, rather than being imposed through top-down frameworks.

Alieu draws daily inspiration from the long traditions of African liberation thought and popular struggle. For him, political clarity is not just an idea—it is a collective practice that affirms the dignity and power of people to shape their own futures.
