Emery Ndayizeye

ORA Africa 2024 Fellow

Cameroon

Born in Burundi and now living in Cameroon, Emery Ndayizeye is a passionate social entrepreneur, photographer, and community organizer. From 2015 to 2021, he lived in a refugee camp in Uganda, where he faced hardship—but also discovered his capacity for leadership and creativity. In 2018, he joined a youth incubation center focused on social entrepreneurship, where he uncovered his skills and passions and began working on projects that brought hope and practical tools to his community.

He went on to help lead trainings in the refugee camp that reached more than 150 young people and 70 adults in business, crafts, and life skills—including bag making, soap production, and hairdressing. In 2021, with support from a donor, he resumed his university studies in Cameroon, earning a degree in Logistics and Transport Management.

Emery is the co-founder of Hope Innovation Hub, a grassroots association that offers workshops in personal development, digital skills, and photography. In 2022, he led trainings in Yaoundé that reached over 30 youth, and in 2023, he launched Back to School – Edition 1, providing school supplies to refugee children. That same year, he was selected for the RLC YALI Dakar Cohort 22. Looking ahead, Emery dreams of empowering more than 500 refugee women and youth through training, storytelling, and skills-building programs across Cameroon.
