Magdalene Ime Idiang is a Nigerian environmental justice activist whose activism was born in the Niger Delta, where extractive capitalism has devastated ecosystems and livelihoods. Witnessing the loss of fertile land, dying aquatic life, and the erasure of indigenous knowledge, she was moved to preserve the ecological wisdom of her ancestors.

With over ten years of experience in advocacy, community organizing, research, and capacity building, Magdalene works to confront land dispossession and environmental exploitation in oil-impacted communities. Her project, IFioK—meaning “knowledge” in the Ibibio language—creates a digital sanctuary to preserve, document, and celebrate Africa’s indigenous environmental wisdom.

Through storytelling, interactive courses, and community-centered research, IFioK uplifts traditional ecological knowledge and challenges dominant narratives that marginalize Africa’s homegrown responses to climate change, ecological degradation, and social inequality. Her work fosters a decolonial ecological movement that positions indigenous knowledge as vital to climate resilience and environmental justice.
